At Kicks and Confidence Collective, we believe confidence can begin with something as simple as a new pair of shoes. For many children, especially those navigating the difficult middle school and high school years, appearance and self-esteem play a major role in how they feel about themselves and how they are treated by others.
Bullying continues to impact millions of students across America. According to the CDC, approximately 1 in 5 high school students report being bullied on school property, while middle school students experience bullying at even higher rates. Studies show that nearly 28% of middle school students report being bullied compared to about 19% of high school students. Today, bullying extends beyond classrooms and hallways into social media and online spaces, where young people experience teasing, exclusion, embarrassment, and judgment based on clothing, appearance, or socioeconomic status.
We understand that shoes may seem small to some, but to a child, they can mean everything. A clean, stylish, properly fitting pair can help a student walk into school with pride instead of insecurity. It can reduce embarrassment, increase self-esteem, and give children the confidence to participate socially, academically, and emotionally.
